Beneficial Insect and Habitats - Rolling Hills Discussion Group

June 17, 2014

Beneficial Insect and Habitats - Rolling Hills Discussion Group

The June Rolling Hills meeting will focus on improving pest management through the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices and beneficial insects. 1.5 DEC credits in categories 1a, 10 and 23 will be available.

Kira White, Vegetable Manager at Honeyhill Farm, will share the farm's use of benefical insect promoting habitat. Attractive habitats provided by flower beds, certain cover crops, and banker plants help draw beneficials to your crop.

Abby Seaman and Marion Zuefle, of the NYS IPM Program, will teach which beneficial insects are used to control certain pests. Come learn about their lifecycles, predation strategies, and potential to be used on your farm!

The Rolling Hills Discussion Group is made up of new/beginning farmers and experienced grower-mentors located in the upper finger lakes. This group is free to join, open to new members, and meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month.
