Soils 101 for Improved Crop Fertility Management - Walk & Talk

April 9, 2014

Soils 101 for Improved Crop Fertility Management - Walk & Talk

Prof. Steve Reiners will be our guest speaker this month. Steve's focus is on vegetables, extension, and fertility. Steve is an excellent, highly approachable, practically oriented resource  - growers are highly encouraged to pick his brain on nutritional questions.

We'll start out with a discussion on basic soil science (how different types behave, dispelling common myths, etc) and move into a discussion of using that understanding to improve your nutrition programs.

Bring a copy of your most recent soil test, and we'll be doing pH testing during the meeting, so bring a small sample of soil from any plots where you know the pH or where you suspect nutritional problems.

The monthly discussion group is free to join and is open to any vegetable growers farming or marketing in Allegany and Cattauragus Counties. Because this meeting is on a more general topic, field crop and other farmers are also invited to attend. Please RSVP to Elizabeth Buck.
