Safe Harvest 2020: COVID-19 Office Hours for Agricultural Producers and Packers

Beginning on Tuesday, August 25th at 4:00 PM EST, Cornell CALS and CCE will host office hours for farmers and packers to answer any questions they might have about managing and responding to protect the farm workforce during COVID-19. Participants will be able to log in from a computer or call in from a phone to ask questions or just to listen. A panel of experts will be available to answer questions immediately, questions that the experts cannot answer right away will be recorded, studied and answered later. The next 6 weeks are a critical time for the farm workforce as seasonal harvest ramps up, so the office hours will repeat every Tuesday at 4:00 PM EST through the end of September. Look for log in information and phone numbers in coming news releases and watch this website: www.agworkforce.cals.cornell.edu.

Fresh Market Potato and Onion Twilight Meeting

This in-person event, hosted by CCE Wayne County, will cover the fresh market potato variety trial and potato disease forecasting. The onion portion of the program will include 1) post-emergent weed control of big weeds in little onions; 2) Fresh research results of 2020 fungicide trial evaluation for Botrytis leaf blight; and; 3) Fresh research results of 2020 "hammer" insecticide onion thrips trial. 2.0 DEC recertification credits will be available for those who attend the full meeting.
The meeting will take place in the gravel lot outside the warehouse, and we will not be walking the field trials in order to make sure we are following Cornell guidelines on safe social distancing.

When you enroll in this program you will also receive a hard copy of the planning guide by mail, have access to additional resources and information and an on-line community of other farms that are also working on their 2021 onboarding plans.

At this grower-focused meeting, ag industry experts will discuss pest control in vegetables, weed management strategies and best practices, seed germination, an introduction to foliar nutrient uptake in vegetables, and grouping flowers by growth needs. Plus we'll hear from a grower panel from Kutztown Produce Auction, moderated with NYS specific pest control from Judson Reid.
2.25 DEC recertification credits will be offered in categories 10, 1a, 23, and 24.
Intro to Food Safety and GAPs Training

- For produce farms just interested in learning about farm food safety, this program will introduce principles and best practices.
- For produce farms look for a GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices) training needed to meet buyer demands for audit/certification, this program will provide that as well.
