This course will present information on insect and disease management in fresh market vegetables in both field and greenhouse (high tunnel) vegetables, primarily for those growing for wholesale auction. Grafting, biological, and where appropriate, conventional spray options will be discussed. A portion of the meeting will include irrigation and soil nutrient management applicable to all farmers. One general session will include updates from the Food Safety Modernization Act. 

This course will educate growers on disease and pest management, varieties and marketing issues in field grown vegetables and greenhouse flowers. Topics such as disease resistant varieties, pest/disease, cultural management, biological controls and appropriate spray options. 

CCE Southwest NY Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Specialists, NRCS, and a local Cornell Cooperative Extension educator will present information on cattle grazing, soil health, IPM for fly control in cattle, weed and insect management in pasture and field crops, and on-farm biosecurity.

Specialists from CCE Harvest NY, Cornell Vegetable Program, Pesticide Safety, and NYS IPM will provide educational presentations and be available to answer your questions. Plus, a local grower will share his experience in flowers and vegetable crops.

Vegetable industry members who grow, manage, or support processing crop production for Nortera, Seneca Foods, and/or Love Beets are encouraged to attend this session of the roundtable meeting. You will:

The NYS Dry Bean Meeting is back in person this year, and will be paired with the annual Dry Bean Cutting Event! The morning meeting will include presentations on the latest dry bean research in New York, with topics including market updates, white mold management, western bean cutworm and soybean cyst nematode management, dry bean variety testing, and incorporating NY dry beans into schools. 2.0 DEC credits will be available.

The Dry Bean Cutting will follow the meeting and showcase the canned dry beans from the 2022 Dry Bean Variety Trial.

Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) is a voluntary food safety audit program requiring minimum standards for the production, handling, packing, and storing of fresh fruits and vegetables. Many wholesale buyers, including grocery stores, schools, and other institutions, require GAPs certification from farms in order to purchase their produce. Farms considering expanding their wholesale markets should attend this training.
