Join us at Poughkeepsie Farm Project, host site for our CCE SWD exclusion netting trial in raspberries. Peter Jentsch of the Hudson Valley Research Lab will discuss the netting trial, and the use of attract and kill baits in a U-Pick raspberry planting. A low tunnel over strawberries will be available for viewing. Bring a fruit sample for salt flotation testing, or a plant sample if you have other berry questions.

This in-field twilight meeting will feature a tour of Christy Hoepting's fungicide trial for Stemphylium leaf blight and Botrytis leaf blight. Hoepting will share head to head comparisons of FRAC groups, alternatives to FRAC 3 and 7, reduced rates, and fungicide programs. A first look at 2018 results from onion thrips research trials will be presented by Brian Nault and Ashley Leach, Cornell University. Hear about the 2018 onion maggot research trial results and new research initiative with Brian Nault and Erica Moretti. Hoepting will also provide information about a new seed treatment for onion smut control.
Berry Field Meeting: Using Hummingbirds to Help Control SWD

Biological and Cultural controls of SWD are possible. Come learn about ongoing research into encouraging hummingbird predation on SWD adults. Dr. Juliet Carroll of NYS IPM will also discuss new research into better thresholds for monitoring SWD and how those thresholds will more accurately inform spray decisions. Managing crop canopy and weeds are also critical for SWD control.

Controlling in-row weeds with cultivation is very challenging. Newer in-row cultivators allow for use of finger weeders, torsion weeders, disk hillers, and harrows to be guided along the row. These tools will be on hand for participants to set up and use in beets. The results of a trial comparing the effect of these tools used on different size beets will also be demonstrated by Bryan Brown, PhD., Integrated Weed Management Specialist, NYS IPM Program.

Grow a Successful Agritourism Business! Assessing and Managing Your Financial Risk from Agritourism

Bringing visitors to your farm can create new income streams but agritourism can also be a source of risk to your farm business. Five lunchtime seminars will teach how to assess and manage different risks to help develop a successful agritourism business. The seminars will be followed by a panel of successful agritourism operators. In-between each seminar, participants will build on their knowledge to develop their own risk management plan. This 5-county program will be offered simultaneously in Delaware (the host county), and by Zoom technology in Otsego/Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster Counties. - For produce farms just interested in learning about farm food safety, this program will introduce principles and best practices.
